About Us
The David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home has been a vital part of the Philipsburg area for over 55 yrs. Throughout this time we have remained at the same location at 228 N. Centre St. Having served at the helm since it's start, David K. Dahlgren got his start in the funeral business after being in WWII. After he returned back to his hometown,  Mr. Dahlgren attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Once his training was complete, he began to serve his internship at a funeral home in Morrisdale Pa. However, due to the untimely death of its owner, Mr. Dahlgren had to complete his internship at another funeral home. He Chose the Koch Funeral Home in State College, PA.

Once the requirements for the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Board were completed, he returned to his home town and established the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Initially the funeral home was comprised of the house on the corner of Spruce and Centre St. As time went on and traditions in funeral service changed, Mr. Dahlgren closed in the front porch to make a lobby. He then built a chapel onto the side of the house. This served a dual purpose; first and foremost it was a chapel where the actual funeral service would be conducted for our families. It's second use is to provide a second visitation room and is usually used when there is a large funeral to accommodate larger numbers of friends and family.

Always looking to do more for his familes, Mr. Dahlgren purchased the former Johnston Law office located next door to the funeral home. With this purchase, he was able to expand the lobby, add a handicap accessible restroom, arrangement conference room and an expanded casket and urn display. He also added an ADA compliant ramp and handicap accessible entrance to the front of the funeral home. It was during this time that he also purchased the property across the street, and tore down some old buildings to create a large off street parking lot for the families and visitors. Additional properties that border the funeral home have since been purchased to allow for future plans.
Over these many years, The David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home has served thousands of Philipsburg area families in their time of need. This tradition of service still exists today. In 1999, Holly J. Henry was added to the funeral home staff as an intern. Once she completed her internship, she became on of the funeral directors at Dahlgren's. Holly is well known in the area and has a great attention to detail when dealing with our families and their loved ones. When she is not at the funeral home, Holly and her husband along with their daughter participate in many activities within the greater Philipsburg area. Before returning to Philipsburg, Holly worked for the Ralph Schugar Funeral Chapel in Pittsburgh while attending mortuary school. Holly is also a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

In early 2008, Mr. Dahlgren entered into semi-retirement and sold the funeral home and it's properties to Patrick J. Willar. Mr. Willar has many years of funeral and business experience before becoming a funeral director. He has a degree in business administration and is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Before purchasing the Dahlgren Funeral Home, Mr.Willar was associated with the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville, PA. This is also where he served his internship and completed his requirements for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Board of Funeral Directors. Patrick J.Willar is committed to keeping the same long standing tradition of service to our families in the greater Philipsburg area.
We would not be able to do what we do without our funeral service assistants. John Deacon has been with the funeral home for 37 years. John assists with funerals and removals, but is best known for the superb job he does maintaining the buildings and grounds of the funeral home. It is John, who does all of the planting in the spring and work through out the year to see that we have one of the most beautiful funeral homes in west central Pennsylvania.

Blair Dixon is retired from Corning in State College. Since his retirement, Blair has also become a valuable asset to our staff at Dahlgren's. As a funeral service assistant, he helps with most all of the activities at the funeral home. Blair stands ready to lend a hand whenever it is needed before, during and after the funeral service.

As we enter into a new era of funeral service at Dahlgren's, we feel that you will be pleased with our ongoing renovations to the funeral home. We will also be adding some enhanced service options for our families in the greater Philipsburg area.
